The Meadowbrook Academy Girls Volleyball Team, Ocala Florida. Our Beautiful Team

My eyes, like always, were fixed on the locker room door, anxious to see my daughter as she came out and onto the volleyball court. That day, I noticed something different as she entered. She came out surrounded by a handful of teammates, all circling her and talking. One of them leaned over to hug her, and I was close enough to see that she had been crying.

My heart stopped. My precious girl. What happened in that locker room?

But then, she smiled and laughed with the other girls, and as she ran onto the court, she looked up at me and gave me the sweetest Taylor grin. And then I knew. Even before several of her teammates also looked up at me and smiled, even before one of them came up to me with words of encouragement, I knew.

Taylor’s team had prayed over her that day. Prayed for her, for our family, and for my healing. It was her freshman year of high school, and she had been with most of these girls since kindergarten at the small Christian school she attended. They were more than her team. They were her family.

That day was “Pink Day,” a day when the school was raising money to support a mom with breast cancer. A mom who couldn’t be more grateful for this community of support. A mom who, on that day, was holding back tears of gratitude as she watched this group of girls rally around her daughter when she needed it most.

They were our hedge of protection in a time of deep difficulty.

And this is exactly what God designed us for.

“Share each other’s burdens, and in this way obey the law of Christ.”— Galatians 6:2 (NLT)

We were never meant to walk through the fire alone. Even when life feels too heavy to bear, even when all we want is to be left alone under the covers, God calls us to open our arms and let others stand in the gap.

“By yourself you're unprotected. With a friend you can face the worst. Can you round up a third? A three-stranded rope isn’t easily snapped.”— Ecclesiastes 4:12 (MSG)

Whether your team is a group of close friends, faithful prayer warriors, or spandex-wearing teenage volleyball players, we all need a team. We need people to lift us up when we are weak, to remind us of truth, and to stand beside us in the battles we face.

Life can be hard. But God, in His goodness, gives us people to walk through it with.

So ask yourself today:

Who is on your team?

And who needs you on theirs?

🍃 Key Scripture to Reflect On

“Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.”— Hebrews 10:24–25 (NLT)

🍃 Your Turn

Who has God placed around you as support during hard seasons?

Take a moment to thank Him for those people. And then ask, Who can I show up for this week? You don’t have to fix anything. You just have to be present. Encouragement, prayer, presence, that’s team support that echoes all the way into eternity.
