Finding a Solid Place to Stand

Have you ever tried one of those rope courses—the kind where you're tethered high above the ground, moving from one wobbly rope to another, heart racing, knees shaking? Every step feels uncertain, every moment a test of courage. Yet, just ahead, there's a platform waiting.
Solid.
Safe.
Peaceful.
Life feels like that sometimes, doesn't it?
We find ourselves suspended between challenges and uncertainty, searching desperately for something steady to hold onto. Health issues, relationship strains, financial struggles—whatever our rope course looks like, the longer we're out there, the shakier we feel. The trick is to find that solid place to stand quickly.
And where is that solid place?
It's trust.
It's gratitude.
It's remembering God's presence even when your knees are shaking.
Scripture reminds us clearly:
🍃 "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding." — Proverbs 3:5 (NIV)
🍃 "Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus." — 1 Thessalonians 5:18 (NIV)
I have a dear friend navigating a tough season caring for her elderly parents. Dementia, mounting medical costs, emotional exhaustion—every day is a shaky step. Yet, she consistently chooses gratitude and trust. Even when sharing the hardest details, she always adds, “But the good thing is…”
She's not ignoring her pain. She's actively choosing to see God's goodness alongside it. Gratitude becomes her solid ground. Trust becomes her peace. And each time I talk to her, I'm reminded that's exactly the kind of steadiness I want in my life too.
Gratitude and trust don't erase the struggle, but they give us something strong to hold onto in the middle of it.
So, the next time you find yourself between platforms, holding on for dear life, remind yourself that you're tethered in—held secure. Even though the ground beneath you is shaking, God has already given you a solid place to stand, peace in the middle of chaos. Even when things feel difficult, He’s holding you up.
Your story includes a “But God” and a “But the good thing is…” too. You just have to get to that solid, peace-filled platform. So, fix your eyes on it—move steadily toward it, knowing you're held—and then stand. Because that platform, that peace? It's not a place. It's a Person. And His name is Jesus. And you’ve been tethered to Him all along, dear friend. What's more, He will never, ever let you fall.
🍃 Key Scripture to Reflect On
"And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." — Philippians 4:7 (NIV)
🍃 Your Turn
What "rope course" are you navigating today? How can gratitude and trust help you find your own solid place to stand?
